Cr₃C₂-NiCr vs WC-CoCr for HVOF

How service temperature, erosion, abrasion and corrosion influence carbide-system selection.

WC-CoCr

A strong first candidate for severe wear and erosion across many ambient-to-moderate-temperature applications such as shafts, rolls and hydraulic components.

Cr₃C₂-NiCr

Often preferred as service temperature rises and hot wear/oxidation become more important because chromium-carbide systems retain useful high-temperature stability.

Do not select by hardness alone

Particle size, impact angle, temperature, corrosion, thermal cycling, substrate stiffness and final finish can dominate service performance.
